Support the inspiring legacy of Santiago Iglesias Pantin
Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE), a nonprofit promoting the Montessori model in Puerto Rico's public schools, welcomed Iglesias Family Foundation to their offices in September 2025. Their network includes a school named after SIP.
Dear Supporters,
We’re writing to report progress on our projects, to request your help, and to wish you a Happy New Year 2026!
Thanks to your support we had some significant accomplishments in our first year of operations.
Updates
Here are updates since our last newsletter:
We established a memorandum of understanding with the University of Connecticut to create a comprehensive, public archive website about Santiago Iglesias Pantín. We’ve made major strides in our website design and hope to launch the website in 2026. Initially, we’ll upload approximately 70,000 documents comprising approximately 500,000 pages from the 47 microfilms we borrowed from the Centro de Documentación Obrera Santiago Iglesias Pantín.
We're embarking on a new relationship with a daycare and preschool named Colegio Santiago Iglesias Pantín in San Juan. We’ll begin with supporting their needs for school supplies.
We found more than a dozen additional SIP-named streets and another SIP monument in Puerto Rico. They are now featured on the map on our website.
One of our partners shared where SIP is covered in the official educational curriculum for schools on the island. He is the subject of at least one class in the 10th grade Social Studies course and in a textbook (see page 2) named “El Trabajo y las Relaciones Obrero-Patronales” for a 12th grade elective course.
Projects
We are committed to creating a media lab at Santiago Iglesias Pantín High School in Ceiba, Puerto Rico. The estimated cost is $20,000.
With University of Connecticut, we launched a massive endeavor to translate both volumes of SIP's autobiography, Luchas Emancipadoras. We will republish them as eBooks in English and Spanish, which will require a substantial investment of about $10,000. Starting with an initial draft of both volumes created by a machine translation, we’re now conducting a careful multi-level human translation of each word. We’ll add scholarly introductions, useful annotations to place people, places and events in their historical context, and a helpful index. Read more about this project on our website.
With $2,000 we will cover the Montessori certification of two teachers at Santiago Iglesias Pantín Elementary in San Juan with the understanding that these educators will author lesson plans about Santiago Iglesias Pantín we can share with other schools.
Fundraising
We have now embarked on major fundraising to fund our exciting new projects. We raised $325 in our first Giving Tuesday appeal. We’re beginning to approach individual donors to solicit funds for our new projects. Very exciting news: We already received $5,000 for the computer lab/podcast studio project from a generous donor!
Please consider giving today. Thank you in advance for your deep generosity!
Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
Yours sincerely,
Tim, Diana, y Chago Iglesias
