Support the inspiring legacy of Santiago Iglesias Pantin
This website is a project of the Iglesias Family Foundation (IFF). The IFF is a California public benefit corporation and registered 501(c)(3) U.S. nonprofit organization established “to preserve and promote the legacy of Santiago Iglesias Pantin.” This website is operated by the descendants of Santiago Iglesias Pantin.
The mission of the Iglesias Family Foundation (IFF) is to preserve and promote the legacy of Santiago Iglesias Pantín (SIP) and the lessons his legacy offers in academic, labor union, educational, and social realms.
Why do we want to preserve and promote his legacy? Very simply, to inspire others to be like him. Today there is a dearth of courageous and thoughtful leaders who are both idealistic and pragmatic. We need more people like SIP in the world. And when people learn about him, they tend to be inspired.
IFF’s primary goals are to Archive, Build, Collaborate and Disseminate SIP’s legacy.
Because primary sources, scholarship and other interesting information about SIP are located in many places, some difficult to access, IFF’s first major task is to collect and preserve information about SIP. The ultimate goal is to create a comprehensive public archive database similar to the award-winning public archive Puerto Rican Citizenship Archives Project (PRCAP) (https://www.scholarscollaborative.org/PuertoRico/). This website will be a focal point for SIP research, enabling people to access information most responsive to their interests. The website will provide an array of resources, such as, research guides for scholars and study guides for teachers. In the future, IFF will expand the database by conducting regular and systematic internet searches to identify, collect and index new information.
IFF will promote SIP’s legacy by networking with institutional collaborators, such as CentroPR, (centropr.hunter.cuny.edu) to increase public awareness of SIP’s legacy and the lessons it offers. IFF will identify and reach out to a diverse range of audiences that are likely to be interested in SIP’s life and work, including scholars, journalists, union activists, teachers as well as Latino/a and Hispanic programs at universities, and national Latino/a and Hispanic organizations. The goal is to promote a vibrant “marketplace” of ideas that fosters exchanges, dialogue, and connections.
IFF will create and encourage others to create new resources about SIP and then share them broadly. By disseminating information about SIP, the foundation will bring more attention to his contributions, and in a virtuous circle, further increase interest in SIP, extend his legacy, and ensure that the lessons it offers are not lost.
