Support the inspiring legacy of Santiago Iglesias Pantin
Formed nonprofit corporation and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exemption status.
Created a standalone website (www.santiagoiglesiaspantin.org) that makes images, documents, videos, songs and other information about SIP available to the general public. The website ranks near the top in page rankings in three major search engines (Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. We are making ongoing content additions and are open to suggestions.
Facilitated the bequest of 20 SIP-related objects from Santiago Iglesias Belendez, Haydee Iglesias Belendez, and Tim Iglesias to the Smithsonian Institution for its permanent collection and for a possible SIP exhibit, including in the future Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino (latino.si.edu). The Collections Committee was thrilled with our contributions!
Met initial $10,000 fundraising goal within six months. IFF received donations from 18 family members and 15 friends who hail from 12 states and Puerto Rico.
Sponsored the first Annual SIP Essay Writing Contest with our partner Escuela Superior Santiago Iglesias in Ceiba in April 2025.
Found more than a dozen SIP-named streets and another SIP monument in Puerto Rico. They are now featured on the map on our website.
Comprehensive SIP online archive: We are working with Professor Charles Venator Santiago of the University of Connecticut on several projects which will culminate in a carefully-curated, comprehensive, online public SIP archive. Working with professional archivists, we are digitizing documents related to SIP from El Centro de Documentación Obrera Santiago Iglesias Pantín (CDOSIP) and other collections. The digitization of 47 microfilms containing approximately 70,000 documents and comprising approximately 500,000 pages is nearly complete. In addition, we are conducting oral histories to preserve memories of SIP and related topics. And, we are creating a SIP bibliography that we will co-publish and update annually.
Developing relationships and partnerships with SIP-named schools: We are raising funds to develop a computer lab/podcast studio (click to read our grant proposal) with our partner Escuela Superior Santiago Iglesias in Ceiba. We are finalizing a Memorandum of Understanding with Escuela Santiago Iglesias in San Juan which will include IFF sponsoring the Montessori certification of two teachers who will create SIP-related materials that IFF can share with other schools. We are newly engaged in partnership with Colegio Santiago Iglesias Pantín, a preschool in San Juan, to support its educational program.
With the University of Connecticut, we launched a massive endeavor to translate both volumes of SIP's autobiography, Luchas Emancipadoras. We will republish them as eBooks in English and Spanish. Starting with an initial draft of both volumes created by a machine translation, we’re now conducting a careful multi-level human translation of each word. We’ll add scholarly introductions, useful annotations to place people, places and events in their historical context, and a helpful index.
We have many other future projects in mind which we will be happy to work on with you. Please subscribe to our emails.
